There is just something so cute about a roly-poly cat. They just seem so huggable, but are they healthy? Probably not.
The nutrition of your pets is very important. When you signed on to having a pet in your home, you also made a commitment to ensure that little critter’s health and well-being.
Veterinarians tend to agree that overfeeding is the most common mistake pet owners can make. This will oen result in an obese and unhealthy Fifi or Fido.
Here are a few ps to remember to ensure the health and happiness of your pet:
• Overfeeding – Pets with unlimited access to food may eat more than they need, so don’t go by the “fill it and forget it” rule. Discuss a proper nutritional schedule from your veterinarian.
• Lack of exercise – Veterinarians say the majority of dogs and cats they see do not receive adequate exercise to maintain good health. Exercise with your pet. Encourage your cat to follow you when you move from room to room, particularly up and down stairs and take regular walks with your dog, keeping a constant pace to help burn calories.
• Age – Older, less acve pets are prone to weight gain.
• Neutering – Spayed or neutered dogs or cats are twice as likely to become obese due to a more sedentary lifestyle.
• Medical problems – Weight gain can occasionally be associated with a medical disorder that may require specific treatment – and will lead to costly vet bills.
