Starting a new job, or looking to reorganize yourself once you return to work after the summer holidays? Here are five helpful tips to mentally and physically prepare you:
1. Practice a sleep routine. Give yourself enough time to relax before going to bed, turning off all those bright distractions to get enough undisturbed sleep. This will have a positive impact on your health and overall productivity. Remember to keep to this routine on weekends if you can. Sticking as close as possible to your weekday wake-up time is a healthier alternative.
2. Prepare meals ahead of time. Making nutritious meals a day or two in advance can free up a lot of time elsewhere in your schedule.
3. Organize the night before. Organizing the items you need to have for the next day will save time. It is much better to realize that you cannot find something when you have time to find it, rather than scrambling to find it in the morning.
4. Find alternate routes to work. Ever thought of how you would get to work if you found yourself without a car? Map out routes you would take if you had to walk or take public transit. Try that route out during the same time of day when you would leave to go to work.
5. Include your family. Your spouse and your kids may be part of your morning routine at some point. Encourage them to set up a similar routine for themselves. Helping younger children learn how to organize themselves will be a benefit to them in the future.
