If a gym workout won’t be making its way into your schedule anytime soon, there are some other ways to add exercise into your daily routine, and we are not talking about taking the stairs or parking further away from the office.
Remember, 30 minutes of moderate exercise each day can be enough to deliver some great results.
Here are a few ways to add exercise to your daily routine:
1. Go for a brisk walk first thing in the morning. Before you do anything else – including checking emails, preparing breakfast, showering, and other morning activities – head outdoors for some fresh air and a quick walk around the neighborhood.
2. Make the most of your lunch break. Take an extended lunch if you can to go for a powerwalk session. Doing a quick workout in the middle of the day can be a great way to boost your metabolism and keep it running in high gear through the entire day.
3. Do exercises in your office. Do chair dips using the arms of a sturdy office chair. Do a series of leg lifts while sitting up in your chair – lift your legs out and hold for a few seconds, lower, then repeat. Do a set of wall squats, or use a stability ball as an office chair and do some floor exercises with the ball during a break. Even a ten-minute sequence can be enough to get blood flowing and help you burn a few extra calories in the middle of the workday.
4. Take stretch breaks. If you’re at a computer all day long, try and break away for at least five minutes each hour for a quick stretching session.
Fatigue, cramps and poor circulation are a few side effects of sitting at a computer in the same position for extended periods of time. Take stretch breaks and do some yoga-inspired stretching to improve your fitness.
Before you know it, you will start to feel better and look forward to the extra exercise. Then perhaps there will be time to fit in the gym workout!
